I need to know what to draw for the theme of Secret Life of Bees? by Allie Q: I read the book Secret Life of Bees by sue Monk Kidd and I wrote a sentence about the theme: Love is love, no matter what way it is expressed. Now all i need t do is draw a simple picture that symbolizes that sentence. any help?

A: Well, this may be too complicated, but you could draw Lily and August with their arms over each other's shoulders, with great big smiles..O_O Because they love each other as friends, right? Even though they're different races. Or you could draw Lily and Zach together. Also, it seems like many of the previous answerers haven't even read The Secret Life of Bees; that's why they're all suggesting bees and hearts.

I have an assignment for the secret life of bees? by la la la 22 Q: the quote is from The Secret life of Bees: . “…Some things don’t matter that much, Lily, like the color of a house. How big is that in the overall scheme of life? But lifting a person’s heart - now, that matters. The whole problem with people is…they know what matters, but they don’t choose it…The hardest thing on earth is choosing what matters.” i just need to find any song, book, story, historical event or experience that can relate to this quote. help please!

A: Check out "Three Cups of Tea", by Greg Mortensen. This is about a man who went mountain climbing and became injured - he was cared for in a village in Afghanistan for a week or so, and saw the poverty there. In exchange for their care, he decided to build them a school. He went back to the US and tried to raise money, but got nowhere. He sold all his belonging, but only got $2,000.00. His mission became known and schoolchildren began to save and raise money for him. His school became a reality - and in fact, he has built 50 schools, mostly for girls, in that part of the world. This is what happens when people do the hard thing. And when they lift others up.

Which movie is better, "The secret life of bees", or "Eagle Eye?" ? by Erica L Q: I need to know what you think of these movies I am planning on going to the movie theatre. My friend Jordyn Zaino says to go watch secret life of bees. And my friend Claudia Lacey says to watch Eagle Eye. To solve this dilemna i need to know what you think so i can pik the right movie. Make sure to tell me why u think so!

A: Well, I've seen both movies, so I hope my opinion will help some. "The Secret Life of Bees" is kind of your typical chick flick crossed with a coming of age story with some civil rights thrown in. If you like chick flicks, it's probably a must-see. I wasn't wild about it, but it was a pleasant enough way to spend an evening. I wasn't expecting much from "Eagle Eye," especially since I don't tend to like action movies, but I was pleasantly surprised. It had more than a decent plot and some good performances, such as Billy Bob Thorton's. There were a few too many chase scenes, but some of the action sequences did keep me on the edge of my seat. I'd probably give it a slight edge over the "Bees," but not much. You probably won't fall in love with either movie, but neither movie will waste your time, either. If I were you, I'd skip both and see something like "Slumdog Millionaire" instead. Now, THAT was good!

can you help me with ideas with The secret life of bees essay? by Q: I need help with some ideas on how to write this essay. I'm not saying to write it, but if you could give me some ideas or examples about it, I would really appreciate it! :) So the question is Novels and plays often depict characters caught between colliding cultures, national, regional, ethnic, religious, and institutional. Such collisions can call a character's sense of identity into question. Select the book (Secret life of bees) in which a character responds to such a cultural collision. If you can help me please go right ahead and comment. Thank you

A: You could start with something like this: Set in the American South in 1964, the year of the Civil Rights Act and intensifying racial unrest, Sue Monk Kidd's The Secret Life of Bees is a powerful story not simply about bees, but of coming-of-age, of the ability of love to transform our lives, and of the often unacknowledged longing for equal women and human rights. Although this novel is not one of a higher reading level, Kidd displays many hidden meanings, ones that require the reader to dig beneath the surface. Addressing the wounds of casualties, betrayal, and the lack of love, Kidd shows the power of women uniting together to treat those wounds, to care about each other and themselves, and to create a community of true family and home. here are some ideas for cultural collision: http://www.oppapers.com/search_results.php?action=search&query=secret+life+of+bees

Writing a paper about The Secret Life of Bees book? by Q: Im working on my summer reading project, i had to read the secret life of bees now i have to write a paper on it. Im not sure how to set up my paper. I dont know what to put in it and where it would go. I do know that i need my reflection at the end of my paper. Please help me!

A: Well, you don't explain what the prompt is, so I can't help you that much. But any essay is set up like this: -Intro (get us in context--what issue will you be talking about & how's it relevant?) -Thesis (what are you arguing?) -2-4 paragraphs supporting your argument with evidence from the book. Each paragraph should begin with a "topic sentence" that makes an argument (i.e., it won't just state, "The Secret Lives of Bees is a novel" or some obvious fact; it'll say something that's debatable: "The title of Secret Lives of Bees is a metaphor, as each character has his/her own complex secret life."); this will then be supported with analysis and quotations. -Conclusion: restate the thesis and explain why it's important. I suggest you do a bit of brainstorming in which you just list possible arguments you can make & what would support it. When you've filled a page or two, try to make a simple outline: a thesis with three supporting points. If you can make an argument that you can back up, writing an essay is a piece of cake.

The Secret Life of Bees or The Hobbit? by idkwhatthatmeans Q: I have to read either The Secret Life of Bees or The Hobbit for a book report. I know it's a weird comparison. But they're the only two choices. I've tried reading The Hobbit and I got ten pages in and decided I didn't like it. I've heard The Secret Life of Bees is kind of like To Kill a Mockingbird, which I liked a lot. Basically what I'm asking is what will be quicker to read and will I enjoy more?

A: Never read the Hobbit, i've read Secret Life of Bees, I didn't like it at first, but, as I got to the end, I kept reading and reading to find out the end...If you have to read one, go ahead and try Secret Life of Bees...and actually /read/ it, not just skim. Actually try and understand the meaning. I actually liked it, it was recommended to me by my English teacher (may I mention she loved it, as well as To Kill a Mockingbird??) lol

Please Help Me with this essay question about To Kill a Mockingbird and Secret Life of Bees? by XC Runner 4ever Q: Could someone please help me with this essay question? It has often been said that art imitates. Using the novels, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Secret Life of Bees, prove this to be true. Use specific details, quotes and examples from both novels to support your points.

A: When To Kill a Mockingbird’s story of an African-American man falsely accused of raping a white woman first appeared in 1960, the Civil Rights Movement was well on its way toward significantly revolutionizing how the U.S. conceived of race.. In 1955, fourteen-year-old Emmett Till was brutally murdered after approaching a white woman in a store – an event that may have influenced author Harper Lee in writing To Kill a Mockingbird. Lee did not set her novel in contemporary late 1950s society, however. This novel instead takes place a few decades earlier, before the changes and conflicts of the civil rights era. What do you think about "The secret life of bees" movie, could it effect the election? by Leigh Anne Q: The movie "The secret life of Bees" is coming up and it WAY touches on the topic of racism, and the hypocricy of religious institutions in the 60's. What are you thinking about it, have you read the book? Could the topic of racism hard effect the election? The question is not whether or not the movie is true..it is fiction so that answers that...the question is can it get people talking about deep issues like racism and religious hypocrisy and effect the election?

A: I did not see the movie. From the sound of it I would question who made the movie. I always look at the source of my information. If there is no source. No need to waste my time on it. Also I do not believe everything I see or read on the media. I look for more than one source for news. Elections should be about issues and the character of the opponents. That is how I vote. Good luck to you and your vote as well. I will find what I can read about this movie. Take care.

What is a good part in the book of Secret Life of Bees that shows Zachary Taylor is honest and Lily isnt? by Q: im writing a literary analysis on how Zachary Taylor from the secret life of bees is a foil to Lily's character. i need support from the text to show that Zach is a honest person, but Lily isnt. Please help.

A: Although it is to override a miscarriage of justice, Lily running away from home and helping Rosaleen escape can be seen as dishonest. For a start she is doing it mostly for selfish reasons; she wants a companion whilst she goes in pursuit of her mother. Rosaleen even points that out a bit later. Again, an ambiguous act of heroism, Zach not snitching on Jackson when he threw the cola bottle and injured the white aggressor in was an act of loyalty. Whilst it was not honest, it was more noble than if he had got his friend into trouble. :')

I have an idea of what the conflicts are but I am not completely sure. I just need examples or ideas... it is for a English workbook for school and I have answered it all, but I want something really, really good and unexpected for my teacher. So my question is... What are the main conflicts of The Secret Life of Bees?? Thanks in advance!

A: Just like the other person, it's been a while since I read it (also great movie by the way that might help you) I thought the main conflicts were a white girl staying with black women women finding a way to support themselves without being depended on men Black people making it well against the stereotype of the white folks The white girl dating a black man the black women being antagonistic to the white sheriff the black woman prefering to be humiliated than talk to the white men the way they want her to I think that's enough for one go... good luck!

What should I put in this Secret Life of Bees scrapbook? by gork19 Q: For a summer reading project, I have to make a scrapbook about the book The Secret Life of Bees. The items in the book can be anything; important events from the plot, pictures of other characters, or prized possessions of the main character (Lily). It has to be 10 pages long, and I am trying to pt 2 things on each page, so we're looking at 20 items. I have about 2 and a half pages done, but still need help.

A: I haven’t read the book. So I looked up the synopsis on wikipedia. Based on this, here are some ideas : -- a cutout of a gun against the background of a wooden floor -- peaches [use fabric or felt cutouts for more realistic look] on the wooden box with pen & paper hidden beneath – the clash of Lily’s reality with dreams/aspirations. -- Civil Rights Act – make a kind of scroll & add it. -- voting ballot boxes, etc. -- maybe some bars of the prison to which Lily & Rosaleen are sent & some blood stains on the bars [to indicate the injuries sustained by the latter…] -- “They begin hitchhiking toward Tiburon, SC…” – make some signposts, milestones, etc. that they would’ve encountered on the way. You can make a map of their hitchhiking route too. -- and of course, a "Black Mary" picture – both Deborah’s as well as on a jar of honey &/or a figurehead of the same [[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Madonna -- you can download a similar image ]] -- stuff associated with beekeeping – maybe a beehive, bees [you could look for Origami models of the same & glue them to your scrapbook], headgear, net, …. -- an image of May with a hazy silhouette representing her dead twin April. You can use tracing paper for the silhouette to show the misty haziness. -- ‘August replies by saying, "...You see everybody needs a God who looks like them, Lily."’ – you could use photos of different global races & show them praying in front of their respective idols that seem to be similar to the particular person/race – in color, form, attire, etc. -- Mary’s suicide note ? -- a funeral [Mary’s] & a wedding [June’s] almost simultaneously. In fact you can make a link/chain with flowers, etc. that connects the two. -- ‘T. Ray said, "Oh, Lily, you're better off there in that house of colored women. You never would've flowered with me like you will with them.”’ – How about a lovely garland made of Black flowers [may be roses, or any other symbolic flower] with the lone white Lily flower blossoming beautifully among them. A garland, instead of a bouquet or vase because a garland has not beginning, no end – it is a “circle of unity”, a “bond of love”…. -- You can also have an image of black birds flying away in the sky along with a white dove – freedom to all. You could use black & white as the main 'colors' of your scrapbook. It will depict the "historical" setting as well as the racial underpinnings of the story without actually having to spell it out in more vivid images or words. Hope this helps Have fun :-)
