What are some cheap, yet still good quality acoustic guitars? by Abbath Doom Occulta Q: Somewhere in the 300-400 dollar range. I really liked the sound Taylor guitars give but I can't break $1000+. I was told the cheapest I could get was a Yamaha, but I didn't like the sound at all. Any ideas? The style I'm looking to play is folk, or some soft rock if that makes a difference.

A: Some of the least expensive acoustics are: Alvarez, Ibanez, Regal, Fender, Yamaha, Jasmine, Epiphone, LXM Little Martin, Rogue, Squier, and Mitchell.

What brand of guitar sells really good, cheap baby acoustic guitars? by moultonfamily Q: I want a baby guitar. I noticed Taylor Guitars sells them for around 400. But I don't have enough money. What other manufacturer makes good baby guitars?

A: If you want a real good sounding, smaller scale guitar, then check out Luna Guitars. We tested about 50 of them and the sound projection, finish and quality was surprising . They are inexpensive and specially made for those who prefer a smaller guitars, want a big sound, and a guitar with a special finish. http://www.lunaguitars.com/ Don't kid yourself, this is not a toy. it is a real guitar.

what are countryish guitars like taylor swifts called? by laurenツ Q: what are the guitars that are used for country music called... i know theres a difference between electric guitars and country guitars and im lookin for the country kind... so what are they called?? 10 points for best and fastest!! thanks

A: you mean acoustic? there are electric and acoustic thats it i think thats what you meant

Are Taylor guitars good? by b Q: And also what's the cheapest Acoustic Taylor guitar?

A: Hello, Taylor guitars are good guitars. I do not consider them cheap. For example, you can buy a Taylor BT-1 for around $230 at eBay, plus shipping. The BT-1 is not a full sized guitar; it is a 3/4 size guitar. http://cgi.ebay.com/Taylor-BT1-Baby-Taylor-Mini-Acoustic-Guitar-BT-1_W0QQitemZ370276372104QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item5636310e88 A full sized Taylor is going to run around $500 plus shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/Taylor-110-6-String-Acoustic-Guitar-W-Deluxe-Padded-Bag_W0QQitemZ290362834063QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item439af93c8f Later, Hello again, Unless you have your heart set on a Taylor, you might want to consider an Epiphone guitar before you make up your mind what to purchase. You can get a full sized Epiphone for around $100. I bought my first Epiphone acoustic over 40 years ago. I like them. Several models in that same price range to choose from. http://cgi.ebay.com/Epiphone-Acoustic-Guitar-pr-200_W0QQitemZ160338515478QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item2554eb9616

anyone know about taylor guitars? by live.laugh.love. Q: I'm debating between two acoustic guitars; they are both Taylors of course! One is a Baby Taylor, but its the Big Baby Taylor (size 15/16). It is a dreadnought with solid sitka spruce and sapele laminate for back and sides for $459. This isn't so bad because im smaller due to I'm a girl. On the other hand, there's the dreadnought acoustic with solid sitka spruce and sapele laminate for back and sides. This is for $649. They both include gig bags, but they don't feature pickups. What do you think?

A: Taylor guitars are awesome. They sound great and are very well built. One will last you a lifetime if you keep it. I have a Taylor 214 and I love it. I installed a condenser pickup in it. You don't have to have a pickup though. Just get a good microphone and place it in front of the guitar if you need to be amplified through a sound system. Good luck with your choice.

are taylor guitars good for DAGAD tuning? by Q: im specifically look at the taylor dn3. Thanks

A: Any guitar can do that tuning and still sound the same, mabye sound different depending on what wood the guitar is but yeah, i use that tuning for acoustic sounds great!

Are Martins Guitars Good? Are Breedloves overrated? Taylor vs Martin guitars? Whats better.? by Q: Okay i love martin guitars more then taylor because of the feel and sound. My friends hate on martin saying that its cheap and has bad sound and bad wood? Is that true? Also are BreedLove overrated are they better then a Martin Guitar? And Taylor guitars vs Martin Vs BreedLove? Can you give me some good comparisons and facts and pros and cons of each one. Thanks! I will give 5 Star rating to whoever helps me out!

A: Well for starters your friends are idiots when it comes to guitars. What you have to understand is that all major brands have to compete in many different price range markets to stay in business. There are Martin's, Taylor's and Breedlove's that cost a few hundred dollars and ones that cost many thousands of dollars. Martin makes several guitars that cost over $10,000, so anyone who makes a broad statement like Martin is cheap is obviously a total moron. There are no real pros and cons you can say about these 3 brands. You have to look at each guitar individually. I mean like I said, they all make fairly inexpensive guitars and very expensive guitars. The easiest way to spot a total guitar noob is when they say one brand of guitar is better than the other. That's not how guitars work, it is a very personal choice. Just because one guy loves his Ibanez that doesn't mean you won't like a Schecter, Jackson, etc. more. A real guitar player doesn't limit them self to one brand when they go guitar shopping. You go play as many as possible in your price range and the guitar will pick you, not the other way around.

Taylor Guitars? *Experienced Guitarists*? by Q: I was researching guitars online and came across the fact that Taylor Guitars are really good. I'm a beginner guitar player but I want a guitar that has great quality and sound. I plan to use the guitar forever. I found two models that caught my eye, the Taylor 110 and Taylor 114CE. I was wondering is it worth getting the 144CE model that is Acoustic electric or should I just get an acoustic? I watched some videos about them and the sound quality sounds great. Any Opinions would be helpful. Btw im not planing on buying anything till maybe christmas. -Thanks in Advance If you guys could explain some stuff about the types of guitars it would be helpful. I'm just a beginer so im not sure what a inkling or a pickup is?

A: if you have any inkling that you might to use a pickup later, buy the one with the pickup. the built in pickups are much better than most "add on' pickups, except the real expensive ones. I have a couple Taylors and I love them

Does anyone have any experience with Taylor (acoustic) guitars? by Nate Q: I am looking to upgrade from my Ibanez Acoustic-Electric to something better. I am going to a Guitar Center in the city tomorrow to try out a few, but am interested in this one, http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Taylor-114CE-Grand-Auditorium-AcousticElectric-Guitar?sku=514495 Any other intermediate Acoustic-Electric guitar you would recommend?

A: Taylors are a great brand of guitar. And for that price on a taylor is a great deal (if it sounds good of course) All guitars are different though, even two that are the exact same model will sound different side by side, so definitely try out a lot and make sure you get the one that sounds the best rather than the one that just has a good brand. My suggestion to you is that if your looking for a full body sound with lots of resonance buy a Taylor or a Gibson. If you want something a little more thin sounding with beautiful highs go with a Martin. And for everything in between....I recommend Takamine.

Dealer discount for Taylor guitars? by Kenneth B Q: What percent of MSRP does a dealer pay to order a guitar from Taylor? 40%, 50%? Please don't answer unless you have some 'inside' information. I believe the standard retail discount is 40%, but I would like to know what a Music Store would pay. Thank You.

A: I think you're a little bit off...I've always heared 26%. In other words, a large volume dealer, like Musicians' Friend, or Guitar Center, might buy 100 particular guitars at $1,000 each. Their asking price will be $1,260, or a 26% increase over what they paid. This is why they often have 10-15% off specials...they're still making money. long time reader of Guitar Player magazine, who has covered this topic before.

Does Taylor make left handed guitars? by Q: I'm thinking of selling my existing guitar and buying a solid body taylor. I saw on their website that i can customize the guitar. I was wondering if i could do this and ask for a lefty.

A: Of course. Every guitar company make all their styles with a left hand model.

Is it true that Taylor makes the best acoustic guitars? by B.J. Q: I want a new acoustic guitar for my birthday, even though I know it's still six months away. I just want an acoustic guitar maybe between $499-$699.

A: No one makes the best acoustic guitars because ultimately it's a matter of taste. The very best Taylor guitars, actually, come from a small division of Taylor called "R. Taylor." These exquisitely beautiful guitars are all around $4000 - $6000 but are well worth it. However in that price range are other wonderful guitars from Santa Cruz, Collings, Gioodall, McPherson, Huss & Dalton, Froggy Bottom, and others. You would benefit and probably enjoy a trip to a high end guitar store - one that carries some of the brands I mentioned - just to see and hear what the best acoustic guitars are like. Good luck.

where can i find these taylor guitars? by alyse d Q: okay so does anyone know where i can find these taylor guitars and their prices? w-65-ce PS-10-ce.... K22-ce... 612-ce-L30... or a PS14-ce-L3?.... they are all on the taylor guitar site but there are none at guitar center or my local music shops.i dont want to buy any guitars off of ebay because you really dont know what youre getting,i need to know of a place that sells them cheap.

A: You can try Musician's Friend, but there's the disadvantage of not being able to play it before you buy it. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/home/navigation?q=taylor

Knockoff taylor guitars? by live.laugh.love Q: i love how taylor guitars look, especially the koa wood versions. does anyone know of any guitars that look a lot like taylor guitars, just not as expensive. like under 700 dollars???

A: Takamine has some nice cutaways and sound nice....

Does Taylor Guitars' still have the "modify a model" program? If so, tell me about it, please.? by goobers Q: What brought me up to this is because I want a 214 or 314 model with a cutaway but no ES because I plan to add a fishman premium blend on it. Is this possible?

A: It does and you can get it from their website.

where's the best place to buy a taylor guitar in montana? by Q: i live in helena, mt. and am looking for the best selection and prices on taylor guitars in the area.

A: Hi Tim! You can buy taylor guitar on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fnoss%26field-keywords%3Dtaylor%2bguitar%26url%3Dsearch-alias%3Daps&tag=digitsy-post-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

What is the best strings for my taylor 310 koa guitar? by norman m Q: i want to buy a set of strings that will produce a striking tone just like the higher end taylor guitars. well my guitar is really good but there's still room for improvement. i want a more "chimey" and brilliant sound. they said elixir is good but what exactly type of elixir should i get or if not, what other brands should i get? thank you for helping me...

A: I have 2 of the top of the line Taylors and on both I will only use Elixir 80/20 bronze, light gauge .12 - .53. I've pretty much tried everything else and even though these cost a bit more, their long life actually means less string changes than normally wound strings, making them the same or maybe cheaper in the long run. Taylor must agree with me as these are the strings that came with every new Taylor guitar from the factory. If you go to a lighter or heavier gauge, you will need to bring your guitar to a qualified repairman to adjust it for the different tension on the neck.

Good Acoustic Guitars for beginners that are like Taylor swifts? by Kat Q: I want to buy a guitar soon, that is just a plain wood one, and is similar to Taylor Swift's. I haven't learned to play yet, but I'm going to get lessons, and I need a guitar soon.

A: Taylor plays a Taylor guitar. They are a bit pricey ranging from $650 to $5,000 dollars. Guitar Center has a 3/4 size T. Swift Taylor guitar for $300 dollars. You can also check out the Taylor 110-E for $650 dollars. There's probably a Guitar Center in your area, so go by and check out a bunch of guitars and find one that you like and fits your budget. BTW Taylor makes some beautiful sounding guitars. I'm saving up to by a Martin&Co. acoustic guitar for about a grand. Good Luck

Are there any guitars that look like Taylor/Guild/etc, but cheaper? by Taylor Q: Like with cool wood/designs/etc. something kinda like this http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Dove-Acoustic-Guitar-518210-i1149938.gc I really like how Taylor guitars have the sparkly circle around the sound hole and the wood designs. And something around 500 or less

A: i LOVE those!!!!cool u go to guitar center!!! + well there might be some of those in small music stores were u live, in guitar center there giving coupons for 200 or more 25%off you can buy that guitar...like your taste on guitar...please answer mine:) about guitar 2 http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgrI0lWvTGKrxz18wv15P_vsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090801093602AACe3R8

What strings do you recommend on a Taylor guitar? by Lucas C Q: I am going to purchase a new Taylor very soon. But am anxious to try out different strings. I already use Elixers on my electric guitars and testing them out at the retail stores using elixers Taylors they sound amazing. However are there any other string brands you recommend that will add to its tone? clarity warmth etc..?

A: I have a Martin and use D'addario Phosphor Bronze Wound. They're nice. http://store.daddario.com/category/144846

Are Taylor guitars better than Gibson? by Q: I want to buy a Taylor or Gibson in near future... When is it worth getting one according to ones skill level? Im only a beginner.. so im not going to buy one yet..unless its worth it.

A: Gibson guitars have been around for a long time. Much longer than Taylor. The company has a very high quality product that will last for a long time. Taylor would probably be less expensive though, but for a beginner, I would suggest Fender's Squier Strat. That is, if you are looking for a beginner electric guitar. For an acoustic, Taylor would do just fine, but I would suggest getting a used one.

Does Taylor Swift Taylor Baby Guitar sounds good? by Q: I am planning to buy the Taylor Swift baby guitar and it's made from Taylor guitars. I was wondering if anyone tried playing it or know if the quality is good? Its $300 so I was wondering if it's worth the quality and hear their experience with it. Thank you so much! Anything about it would be nice to hear.

A: I had a look on the website a while ago and I think I will save to get it one day. To me it looks very good! The make Taylor Guitar is well known so I am sure it is one you can trust. I think you get what you pay for and Taylor Swift is not going to want to disappoint her fans. Also the Taylor Baby Guitar is a make that Taylor played in the past, so it must be a good one! This is what the website says, though you have probably read it!: Inspired by memories of writing songs on her Baby Taylor, country pop sensation and longtime Taylor artist Taylor Swift collaborated with Taylor Guitars to design a signature Baby Taylor model. The TSBT features standard Baby Taylor specs, embellished by Swift’s custom, screen-printed rosette design, which features the word “Love” three times among a delicate vine motif. The personalized design also features the title of her latest album, Fear- less, inscribed along with her signature above the bridge. The Baby Taylor is the ultimate travel companion, delivering volume and tone that surprise for its diminutive dimensions. At three-quarters the size of a full-sized guitar, the Baby Taylor lives for the road. It also loves little hands, which makes it an irresistible choice for young Taylor fans taking lessons. The Baby Taylor guitar comes with a FREE gig bag! Here are some of it's features: * 3/4 Dreadnought * Taylor Swift Model * Solid Sitka Spruce Top * Special Design for Taylor Swift * Great for Children and for Traveling Taylor Swift Talks About the Taylor Swift Baby Taylor (TSBT) "I wanted to share my passion for playing guitar with my fans," Taylor Swift said. "For a beginner, finding the right guitar can be intimidating, but this guitar, it's the perfect size. Even if you've been playing for years, it's a great size to travel with. I used to sit in the back seat of the rental car while I was on my radio tour at 16, writing songs on my Baby Taylor. I love the sound, and I love those memories." The 19-year-old singer-songwriter, who has shared a close relationship with Taylor Guitars since she was just a precocious, aspiring preteen with very big dreams, has blossomed into one of music's most successful acts. Her sophomore album Fearless (whose release Swift celebrated at the Taylor Guitars factory last November) debuted on the Billboard Hot 200 at the top spot and has since gone on to sell over 4 million copies. Recently, she surpassed the 10 million mark for total albums sold and over 20 million paid downloads--more than any artist in country music history. Her headline tour this year included a recent sold-out show at New York's Madison Square Garden, where each song was accompanied by legions of singing and screaming fans, who at one point gave Swift a four-minute standing ovation. In the Box: 1 Taylor Swift Baby Taylor (TSBT) Guitar, 1 Taylor Gig Bag More About the Baby Taylor The Baby Taylor is the ultimate travel companion, delivering volume and tone that surprise for its diminutive dimensions. At three-quarters the size of a full-sized guitar, the Baby Taylor lives for the road. It also loves little hands, which makes it an irresistible choice for kids taking lessons. The comments of Amazon were very good: Taylor really does make real good guitars this guitar is great to travel with and also comes with a gig bag taylor swift did it this time with the baby taylor i dont know how many of this model will be Made but i know the price will rise so order today I love It Josh bunch From.... Jamestown KY USA Good for any country music lover......... TAYLOR SWIFT DID GREAT WITH THE BODY ON GUITAR PLAY this guitar and never give up on playing When I first opened the box and saw this guitar I was not sure I made the right choice. Since I already own a couple of folk guitars, I wanted something a bit different. And believe it or not, this Taylor Swift guitar delivers! I am thrilled with the sound from it, and I am getting acclimated to the slimness and feel of it. It also helps that my husband, Chris, sits there and totally laughs at me! He says I'm not into collecting shoes, rather, I'm into collecting guitars! Love, love, love this guitar! Taylor Guitars did a really nice job on Taylor Swift's first signature model and the sound is really articulate for such a small guitar and would recommend highly and really like the fact that it has a solid spruce top and will get better as the guitar ages...Always wondered why there where so many fans of the baby taylor line but this guitar can give you the sound of a dreadnought but in a much smaller size...like the fact it has an ebony fretboard and the silk screen rosette looks really good on the guitar and recommend this guitar for everyone.. Hope that helps!

what is the best taylor guitar for a good price? by guitarmaster Q: I'm looking at a lot of taylor guitars, and have found quite few that are expensive and need a little help getting some information on what would be a good buy.

A: you have to go to a store and try one out. theyre all sooooo nice. im saving up for an 814ce, but thats upwards of 2,000. i'd wait and spend a more money on a better one, then buy a cheaper one now. no matter what you get though, itll be well worth the money.

why do they say taylor guitars are high quality? is this true? by love45 Q: i bought the 816ce and it is average, spent $2700

A: taylor makes some amazing guitars. but now they are like gibson. just an overpriced brand name. Its not that they are bad guitars, but you can almost always find a better one cheaper. especially with gibsons. their quality control is all over the place these days.

Are Taylor electric guitars any good? by paramoreluver12 Q: I was looking at electric guitars and stumbled upon a Taylor. I know their acoustic electrics are really good but I don't know about their electrics. are they any good?

what are other brands of guitars like taylor and dean? by Q: what are other brands of guitars like taylor and dean? or just good brands of guitar that make natural guitars don't put Gibson or Fender or Yamaha please. =) thanks

A: Ibanez, Martin, Johnson

Why does solid spruce top wood on Taylor guitars turn ugly brown? by Brian C Q: I've noticed on many Taylor guitars that over time, the spruce top goes from the very attractive yellow color to a rather ugly brown color. Why is this? Is there any way to prevent it? Thanks so much!

A: It isn't the wood, it's the finish, and every good acoustic guitar that uses a finish that enhances tone will eventually yellow with age. Usually, this finish is nitrocellulose lacquer. When you see all those shiny guitars that utilize polyester or epoxy which never changes in color, but this finish basically coats the guitar in plastic which seriously damages the tone. you'll never see these finishes on quality instruments. So, you should look forward to having a guitar with an aged finish because that tells you it is finally reaching it's prime.

How much are Taylor guitars? by Q: Does anyone know how much the Taylor guitars are at music unlimited? plz help!!

A: The Baby Taylors list for $398.00. They are the cheapest Taylors made, except for maybe the Backpacker model. Taylor Guitars list for several thousand dollars depending on how nice of a guitar you're looking for.

How did Taylor Swift get enough money to pay for her guitars? by Juliette.x Q: How did Taylor Swift get enough money to pay for her guitars? She started playing when she was 12, and it seems in that year, she bought a Taylor for around $3,000!! A year later and she had a 12-string koa, God knows how much that was. Any ideas? Thank You in advance =)

A: Her parents got them for her well gave her the money for them anyways.

Are Martin and Taylor acoustic guitars really worth their prices? by Wolf Q: I've heard mixed reviews through the years, some say that you are just paying for the names while others say the sound is worth the extra money. I've not played either, only Fender and Washburn acoustics. If anyone has experience with these brands I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts. Thanks

A: Martin and Taylor both are excellent guitars. Taylor is made for James Taylor..Martin guitars are known for their quality and playability etc. So either one you choose from these 2 will be a definite upgrade from the Washburn and the Fender acoustics. Good Luck.

which model of acoustic electric taylor guitars is the cheapest? by zoidster345 Q: and approx how much?

A: I think that would be the 110e at $649.

Fret size of Taylor Guitars? by ii7-V7 Q: Does anyone know what size fretwire Taylor guitars use? Is there any place to by that particular size?

A: Personally, I'd try contacting Taylor. Type their name in to a search engine and see if there's an email link. I assume that you HAVE a Taylor?

Taylor Guitar experts! How do they name their guitars? by Jeff C Q: Every guitar maker has their own complicated way to name their guitars: many of them have series to separate types of guitars (by shape, size, etc) followed by a model number. I can't decode Taylor's method for coming up with the model names for their guitars... I have a Taylor 314ce, and I just developed a personal attachment to make me choose it, but there are several that look the same but still have a different name! Help me out!

A: There's no easy answer. The -10 series is dreadnought size, -12 series is a grand concert size, the -14 series is auditorium size, and the -15 series is jumbo size. The first digit, from 1 to 9 indicates increasing quality of wood and decoration. GS stands for Grand Symphony, GA = Grand Auditorium, GC = Grand Concert, LKSM is the Leo Kottke Signature Model, and there are others. - K means the guitar has koa for the back and sides and possibly for the top. Hope that helps.

Which do you prefer: Martin or Taylor acoustic guitars? by Sultan of Q's Q: I am trying to purchase an acoustic guitar and the choice is between a Martin or a Taylor and I would love to have other peoples' opinions about these guitars before I go ahead and buy one of them. Thank you in advance for your answers

A: Taylor

What's the difference between these Taylor acoustic guitars? by Green Foos Q: What's the difference between the 114ce, 214ce, 314ce, 414ce, 514ce, 614ce, 714ce, 814ce, and 914ce? Which has the brightest sound? Which is the best for playing chords?

A: The LOWER the number the CHEAPER the guitar. A 114ce is barely worth the trouble to take it to the nearest dumpster while the 914ce is a very nice CUT AWAY GUITAR. The MORE EXPENSIVE the Taylor is, the more EXOTIC the WOODS are that are used to make it and the CLEARER the sound. If you play a 914ce and the a 114ce, you will QUICKLY understand whay there is such a difference in the cost. I have a Tayloe NS34ce Nylon String Classical and it has an absolutely BRIGHT, CLEAR AS A BELL voicing. the more expensive a gutar is, the CLEARER and CLEANER the sound is.. a cheap guitar has a sort of MUDDY sound while an expensive guitar just RINGS LIKE A BELL when you play it. To answer your question.. the BRIGHTEST SOUND will ALWAYS be the MOST EXPENSIVE because they use the most EXOTIC woods that give the BRIGHTST SOUND and those are the MOST EXPENSIVE WOODS TO BUY.

How many guitars does Taylor Swift use and what are the brands and models of them.? by mjs_bigdog Q: I went to one of her concerts and she used 3 different guitars. She used the rhinestone one, the black electric guitar, and her electric acoustic guitar. I think the black one is a gibson and the electric acoustic is a taylor brand guitar. I don't know what the rhinestone one is. I'm not sure if I'm right, So can you tell me what brand and model each one is.

A: She has used Taylor Guitar in the past. You can go to this site and read about it. You have to scroll way down, just look for her picture. http://www.taylorguitars.com/news/products.html

whats the difference between Pantheon guitars and Taylor guitars and which do you prefer? by Q: i don't know a lot about these brands and I'm trying to find out which is more unique and more preferred

A: Pantheon/Bourgeois guitars are hand crafted, I'm pretty sure Taylor's are not regardless of what they lead people to believe. I could be wrong and if I am some one please correct me. I doubt that any Taylor will be on par with a Bourgeois. Taylor makes some very nice guitars, but a Bourgeois starts at over $4000 whereas Taylor's start at several hundred dollars. Ther are some very expensive Taylor's also.

Where can I get Taylor Swift acoustic guitars and taylor swift band hero Accessories? by Q: I really love Taylor Swift, and there are competitions for her acoustic guitar and band hero things, but it doesn't ship outside America, does anyone know where I can get them (sites are welcome eg.amazon) but amazon doesn't have them so if anywhere in Ireland or online sells them, I would love for you to tell me thanks:)

What authorized store sells taylor guitars less than guitar center? by Q:

A: I guess these guys don't get out to the older, well established music stores. There are two music stores in my area that have dealer's contracts with Martin, Taylor and even Breedlove. Even with, a few other top-notch makers, besides custom makers that can provide clients with one-of-a-kind units for the asking. But that does involve some expense if you are to that point of getting that special guitar for life. Point is, there are still stores around if you look them up. They can provide some good deals if you become their regular customer over time, and will be willing to refer them to other musicians and potential clients. These stores and studio combos are run by both ex-performers and professional degree music majors and instructors. They are not only interested in making a living and what the customer is after, but willing to help even if they don't make a sale. They know you will be back not only because of their stock, but they will have the answers and advice for anyone interested. They have been there, where we once were. Got to get out more guys, and rub elbows with the generations. But then again, I have to say that few stores have stayed around some 40 years that I know of, that are still independents. And still are successful. Word of mouth is still valuable in this business. Realize, the Internet music equipment supply chains and GC depend upon heavy advertising and bulk inventories over time. Per unit costs to them are still under a profit margin outline in order to insure profit. That is true with any consumer outlet for goods and services. There is always room for negotiation, but on their terms and when business is still good. As well, they are big enough to even take a loss but to a point of quick recovery on the next 'sale'.

What are the best less-cheap Taylor acoustic-electric guitars? by shreditout Q: Taylor guitars are great...that means they can be incredibly expensive. What acoustic-electric Taylor guitars are the cheapest (cutaway preferably)

Is Taylor a good brand of acoustic guitars for beginners? by Q: I can sort of play the keyboard, I do not really play any other instruments. I cannot read music notes but I know the basics. I want to become a singer/songwriter and I want to learn to play the acoustic guitar. As a beginner I found two Taylor acoustic guitars online at Best Buy that are cheap enough for me to save my money and buy one of them. I would like to know if it is a reliable brand for beginners.

A: Taylor makes great guitars so in general, you can't go wrong with that. However, buying guitars online can be something of a hit and miss affair when you're just starting out. You really should be able to try the guitars first before you decide to purchase the instrument or not. I suspect you've been looking at the Baby Taylor guitars. Although these are good guitars, they are not full size. They are somewhat limited in volume and tone. You should really go for a regular full size steel string acoustic. And again, you definitely want to try this out for yourself... You will definitely do best if you buy from a dedicated guitar/music dealer. Oh, and stay well away from First Act instruments. These are nothing but kids toys. Edited for spelling errors...

Are Taylor Acoustic Guitars Good For Advanced Guitar Players? by aamer2012 Q: Hi, I have been player guitar for about ten years now, and am looking for a new acoustic guitar. Now I've always been interested in Taylors because I've heard a couple online and read good reviews about them. I've never personally played a Taylor Acoustic Guitar, so I was wondering, are they good quality and good sounding guitars for an advanced guitar players, and are they worth the buy/money? Thanks.

A: they are excellent for eveyone and very well worth the money. If you can afford it, get the nicest Taylor you can get.

Guitar brands comparable to the Taylor guitars? by Q: I'm looking for a guitar or guitar brand that makes guitars that have the same quality as a Taylor, but at a much cheaper price. Help me out?

A: A good quality, but fairly cheap guitar is made by Crafter. They do some Taylor lookalikes, but the quality is really good.

What is the difference between New Taylor and the Old Taylor Guitars? by Q: On Ebay I was looking at Taylor 314ce guitar and there were some that were 1992 model and there was a 2002 model. What would be the difference between 1992, 2002, and a guitar that I would buy at Guitar Center?

A: The main difference would be the Taylor Expression System, the old Taylor guitars had the fishman pickup system installed, this system had the PA system cut into the top of the guitar. The new Taylor Expression System just has three holes drilled right above the neck on the side of the guitar. Both systems sound great, but I personally think the Expression System more accurately represents the natural sound of the guitar. Also the two older models will have Grover tuners while the new one would have Ping tuners (not really a big deal) The other issue is Taylor offers a lifetime warranty on their guitars, but you do not get that warranty if you buy a used Taylor.

How come Taylor guitars are so expensive like the 814ce $2500+, are they ripping off ppl? by Q: I know the company Taylor is known but are they ripping people off with their outrageous prices for a guitar like $2500+? Can't a guitar be $1000 and be as good as the $2500 taylor?

A: Sometimes better. Taylors are consistently good and hold their resale value, but like most American made guitars the price is way inflated. Got to pay for all that new robotic machinery at the factory, oh and all the sales reps. rosewood, cutaways, and abalone inlays all add to the price. Taylor charges a big premium for Rosewood and Maple, over say Mahogany. Even though their materials cost is about $50 more per guitar. This is traditional American guitar pricing, Gibson and Martin all followed it too for years. Mahogany was cheap imported wood. Domestic curly Maple was a little more expensive, but still cheap, and Rosewood (in the old days from Brazil) was always expensive, and used on the best guitars. Nowadays, instrument grade domestic lumber is expensive and the makers add it on to their cost to the customer. Indian rosewood, once a cheap sub for Brazilian is now expensive too, and ebony is scarcer and scarcer. Taylor uses ebony on all their guitars, even on the headstock I think. This is added into the price to you. Foreign makers are able to sell cheaper guitars for two main reasons--cheap labor in their country, and no snob appeal. Who wants an Eastman over a Martin? But some of these foreign jobs are really good and use the same woods, all solid construction. When everything was handmade, it made sense to charge a lot more for a fancier guitar. The best deals in American made instruments have always been in the simpler models like the Martin D-18. But today, the profit to the maker is much greater on their top of the line models, because the increase in time to make the thing is not much more than a simpler guitar. It's all the same CNC machining. Only materials cost and a little extra care goes into the upper level models, not necessarily better sound. Cosmetic wood grading doesn't mean a better sounding instrument. When looking at the guitar top, look for well quartersawn spruce, with lots of medullary rays (aka silk). Those are the little wood cells that go across the grain. They are more visible the more you get to perfect vertical (quartered) grain. It is usually indicative of a better top. Color of the spruce, and grain lines per inch are not important, only cosmetic. Mahogany is now expensive too, which is why Taylor switched to Sapele, a similar looking, but inferior wood in terms of stiffness.

How much does it cost to replace the Taylor Guitars Expression System? by aspenseattle Q: I have a 314CE with the Taylor Guitars Expression System and it broke - the piece that holds the guitar strap on is also the piece that you plug the cable into and it broke off - I have to take it to the guitar store, but if it were to come down to having to replace the entire pick-up - what would the price be for that?

A: Luckily for you the piece that broke seems to be just the endpin jack and/or the battery casing. It should be a relatively easy fix. The pickups themselves are buried underneath the very end of the fretboard and, if that were broken, would require a great deal of work. The jack is specific to Taylor, so the cost would be whatever Taylor says plus labor.
