Are there any original movies this 2009? by Delos Trinos J Q: This year is going to be full of undoubtedly great and entertaining movies, but one trend was common on all of them; they were either based on some book (Watchmen or Angels and Demons), a sequel/ remake of an old film(Friday the 13th and Star Trek) or even yet an animated series (GI JOE: The Rise of Cobra or Avatar: The Last Air Bender) .While they may be fun, they aren't exactly original like the old films. Besides a couple of upcoming films like the ones I'm going to mention, what other films have an original story or are part of a new series? Seriously, I'm sick of seeing remakes and other unoriginal films. Upcoming films: - Public Enemies (John Dillinger's crime wave is threatened as he is hunted down by a determined FBI agent) - District 9 (for 28 years, alien refuges have been living in Southern America as prisoners of the government in the country's attempt to use the alien weaponry. After years of fruitlesness, the American government decides to evict the aliens; but the aliens are determined to remain alive) - The Nine (a scientist's nine dolls/ creations are the last remaining hope of a desolated world raveged by the machines) - The Descent 2 (sequel to the 2006 surprise hit, Sarah is forced to go back into the darkness of the caves that took the lives of her friends when a rescue team attempts to find out what happened down there) - 2012 (a regular family gets stuck in a desperate race for survival when the whole world finds out that the Mayan calendar's prediction of the end of days is true) If you're going to suggest a movie, please add a summary. And if possible, please give me some original 2009 movies that are either noir (please not the "Perfect Sleep") or in the style of the 1980's psychological films (Blade Runner, Clockwork Orange, or more recently, The Mist)

A: There's a sci-fi I reall want to see called Moon with Sam Rockwell. it's about a guy on the moon by himself (Sam Rockwell) and the station computer is his only source of companion ship for 3 years (Kevin Spacey) Basically he finds someone on the moon and it turns out to be him. So either he's going crazy or something is really messed up. I posted the trailer and the link. The original story happens to be by the director so i think you can categorize it as an original story. (I don't think it's a published book but I'm not entirely sure). Cold Souls is another strange one with Paul Giamatti. It seems to be like a Charlie Kaufman type story. Basically his character is weighted down by his soul so he has it removed and put in storage. He then decides he wants it back, but when he returns he finds it has been sold on the black market. he goes to Russia to try and get it back.

Would this be a good contemporary solo song? by Awesome-ness Q: The song is called "I'm Still Here" by John Rzeznik here's a link to the song from youtube if you don't know it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z-l9IUBOqM I'm not really sure on what a good contemporary song would be, especially for a solo, so any help would be great! Emotional, slow song about mental illnesses? by Dancer.Girl Q: In Dance class, we have to choreograph a dance about mental health. My group and I have decided to all act like we have a specific mental illness. However, we cannot find a song that would be suitable. We want it to be slow, sad and extremely emotional. It's a lyrical-contemporary routine, and we like the idea of being trapped. It doesn't have to be slow, but we don't want metal; pop-punk or emo would be ideal.

Can you name some good sci-fi books for me? by Mrs. Gick Q: As a hopeless Trekkie, I really enjoy sci-fi stories, but I can never pick out any good ones. I know that some really popular science fiction authors of the sixties wrote episodes of Star Trek, but I'm not sure if their books are any good. Can you help me out?

A: **** Read FREE online (or download to kindle) at BAEN Free library http://www.baen.com/library/ In SCIENCE FICTION, here are some I (Fittings Doc) would recommend: "On Basilisk Station” (1993 / 448 pages) by David Weber **** (the first book in the "Honor Harrington" series) This Space Navy series has FEMALE lead character. Beyond the Technology of the spacecraft and weapons, the story revolves around interpersonal relationships with which you will be able to identify. “Shards of Honor" (1986) by Lois McMaster Bujold Set approximately 1 year before the birth of Miles Vorkosigan. “Barrayar” (1991) by Lois McMaster Bujold (Won the Hugo and Locus SF Awards, nominated for a Nebula Award and THREE other books in the series Won Hugo Awards.) Both these prequels to the Vorkosigan Saga feature Cordelia Naismith, a FEMALE lead character. "Sassinak" (1990) by Anne McCaffrey (the first book of “The Planet Pirates trilogy”) Has a FEMALE lead character. "Hunting Party" (1993) by Elizabeth Moon (first book of the "Heris Serrano” trilogy - a Space Opera) It has a FEMALE lead character. “Once a Hero“ (1997) by Elizabeth Moon (first book of the “Esmay Suiza” trilogy) Another Space Navy series with a FEMALE lead character. Beyond the Technology of the spacecraft and weapons, the story revolves around a personal struggle for identify with which you will be able to identify. "The Ship Who Sang” (1969) by Anne McCaffrey (the first book of “The Brain & Brawn Ship” series) It has a FEMALE lead character. "The Planet Savers" (1958 / 91 pages) by Marion Zimmer Bradley (the first book of the "Darkover" series) It was first published in 1962, along with "The Sword of Aldones" (1962 / 164 pages). “For Love of Mother-Not” (1983 / 256 pages) Alan Dean Foster (the first book in the “Humanx” series - featuring Pip and Flinx) “Dragonflight “ (1968 / 309 pages) by Anne McCaffrey (the first book in the "Dragonriders of Pern" series) (Won a Hugo Award for Best Novella for the first segment, called “Weyr Search”) (Won a Nebula Award for the second segment, called “Dragonrider”.) This Sci-Fi series is probably the most popular "Dragon" series. In it flame breathing dragons team with human riders to burn "thread", an Alien organism that will destroy their world if it falls to the ground. "Ender's Game" (1985 / 226 pages) by Orson Scott Card "Speaker for the Dead" (1986 / 382 pages - the sequel to "Ender's Game") by Orson Scott Card (Both won the Hugo and Nebula Awards.) "The Left Hand of Darkness" (1969) by Ursula K. Le Guin CLASSIC (won the Hugo Award 1970) "Foundation" (1951) by Issac Asimov CLASSIC (the first book of the "Foundation” series) Postulates the societal change, which would accompany the expansion into the stars. The seiries won the one-time Hugo Award for "Best All-Time Series" in 1966. (One of the other books in the series also won a Hugo Award.) “Dune” (1965) by Frank Herbert CLASSIC (the first book of the “Dune” series) (Won the Hugo and Nebula Awards.) “1632” (2000) by Eric Flint **** (first book of the “Ring of Fire” alternate history series) "Island in the Sea of Time" (1998) by S.M. Stirling (the first book of the "Nantucket" series) The island of Nantucket is transported by an unknown phenomenon (called "The Event" in the series) back in time into the Bronze Age circa 1250s BC (corresponding to the late Heroic Age of Greek mythology). In FANTASY here are some I (Fittings Doc) would recommend: "Polgara the Sorceress" (1997/ 768 pages) by David Eddings (a prequel to his masterwork series "The Belgariad" and "The Malloreon") It has a FEMALE main character. "The Elf Queen of Shannara" (1992) by Terry Brooks (the third book of the tetralogy "The Heritage of Shannara"). It has a FEMALE main character. "Sheepfarmer's Daughter" (1988 / 512 pages) by Elizabeth Moon **** (first book of the “Deed of Paksenarrion” trilogy) It has a FEMALE main character. What happens to the human race? by game_informer52 Q: So after the sun kills us by going into it's red giant stage, what will happen to the human race will it just be completly wiped out? And when the sun wipes us out what happens when we die do we just live in complete darkness, we can't get reborned again because the human race is wiped out, I'm sure if we go to heven there will be barely any room. So do we live our lives in complete darkness we can't think see talk eat, just lay there and do nothing so will be reborn in another galaxy?

A: First of all, the sun won't begin its Red Giant stage for untold millions of years from now. So there is plenty of time for the human race to react to the problem or meet its divine destiny. If you are a religious person, your assumptions regarding heaven and our after-life are in error. Those who believe in heaven/hell do not believe that heaven is a solid "place" that requires a location in some galaxy. The same belief applies to our human spirit/soul after we die. Both heaven and our soul exists in the spirit that God has ordained. The human race will have been reborn long before our sun begins its Red Giant stage. Therefore, if you are religious, have no worry for our future generations. God will have taken care of them. On the other hand, if you accept evolutionary science and are not heavy into religious beliefs, human kind will have continued to evolve for millions of years before the sun begins its growth. I'm sure that we will be in the "Star Trek" or "Star Wars" type of time period by then. Human kind (or whatever name we would be called by then) would have left earth and populated other galaxies by then. What would be happening to our puny sun and solar system probably wouldn't even make YouTube. Therefore, no need to worry for our future generations because they won't be anywhere near our galaxy when the sun destroys our solar system.

In some universes, america is an unfree, forth world nation forever and ever? by twittytumbles Q: In a parallel universe the united states, for it's entire history was as unfree and exactly like cambodia was under pol pot to the last detail. In a different universe, the united states is a unfree, forth world country (for it's entire history),in that universe, the united states is run exactly like zimbabwe was run under mugabe

A: You could say hell runs in parallel. (People describe their own hell) (Matt. 25:28-30) will have their rewards taken from them and given to those who were faithful, and, and they will be cast into "outer darkness," the place where there shall be "weeping and gnashing of teeth." The "outer darkness" described in this passage is not a description of hell, but is likely a lesser status in God's kingdom. I here people say, "I hear your always prodded and bothered in hell" Again another state of existance on earth. Scientists have concluded that some unknown force drives our sub-consciousness. (Evil is not conscious) Freedom is a state of heart and mind. All nations are founded upon a wealth and ideologically driven treacherous conquest via the use of pervading powers. (Which sets a cultural precedence that leaves us fighting our demons for many years. So the precedence of capitalism, guns, freedom and trade route wars is not great) The devils allowed to run free and then chastised by an Old testament style system. Considering Orthodox Jews hold dominions there it's no wonder. (Not that all Jews are evil or anything, it's just the devil seems to have worked through that culture at least since the era of Moses 3500 years ago) Nearly every pervading empirical power the earth has known repelled the Jews to rise up against Judea or their own ignorance, building false empires only to become evil in the process of doing evil. These doods have been bankrolling wars, broken homes and broken minds for thousands of years. What did Luke Skywalker Do wrong in the Cave in Episode 5? by VaVeViVoVuV Vowel ☺Eater☻ Q: I have seen Star Wars 100 times but I never fully understood why he failed at the cave and saw his face in Darth Vader's mask? Vader Attacked him FIRST and he defended himself and killed the fake Vader, how did he fail?

A: Well the answer given by "sis" is way wrong, the other two are almost right ... not trying to be a jerk just give facts ... it took me about 20 years to figure it out too. It is part of his "Jedi trials" ... the "trials" are different for each being but in the end it always comes down to defeating the dark side inside you ... basically renouncing the power that anger can give and, maybe most important of all, facing your fear instead of trying to fight it. The "Vader" that Luke fought in the cave was a "Force Illusion". Kind of like the "holo decks" on Star Trek. Remember in the scene where Luke asks Yoda what is in the cave and Yoda says "Only what you take with you ..." then Yoda says "Your weapons ... you will not need them." Remember Luke's reaction to that ... he just went about putting his weapons belt on. With that one gesture Luke's fate in the cave was sealed. By taking his weapons he also took his fear with him. You can NOT fight your fear ... you can only face it. Luke fought his fear and thought he had did something good by cutting its head off but ... when the mask stopped rolling around and burst open to show his face ... it showed him his failure and showed him he still had a long way to go with his training. If you're asking yourself how I got all of that from the movie ... well I didn't. Truth be told when I first saw that scene I thought it meant that Luke had won or something. The when Yoda mentions his "failure at the cave" it started me thinking that my first thoughts were wrong. I could never put my finger on it until I read the EU series "Jedi Academy". In the third book of that series one of the characters, Kyp Durron, had to face a similar "trial". He went into a dark temple on Yavin 4 and in that temple was a shadowy figure whose face he couldn't see. At first he thought it was the "ghost" of the Sith Lord, Exar Kun, who had possessed him and turned him to the dark side. Kyp first decided to fight the shadow and destroy its darkness forever. THEN he realized what Luke didn't ... you can't fight your fear you can only face it and hope for the best. In this case it was the right thing for Kyp to do because the "shadow" wasn't Exar Kun ... it was the spirit of his brother. If he had attacked the "shadow" he would have been attacking his own brother much the way it seemed that Luke was fighting himself and not Vader. His brother’s spirit congratulated him on becoming a full Jedi Knight and then said farewell to him. One of those kind of "touchy feely" kind of things but it worked well to show what Luke had done wrong during his trials in the cave. May The Force Be With You ... EDIT: Kind of forgot this one ... the mask blowing open to show Luke's face was a bit of "foreshadowing" for Vaders revelation to Luke after their duel in Cloud City.

What are some creepy dance songs? by Derek Q: I am choreographing a contemporary solo for a show and I need a creepy song. In this dance I am portraying a mentally insane person and what it's like for them. I want to show how hard it is and how scary it is for even them. I need an intense song that will allow me to create this concept.

reading suggestions for harry potter fan? by articicle Q: I really enjoyed Harry Potter books and would like to find something similar. The Golden compass isn't exactly my thing. I also like star wars and star trek. I love the old time edgar rice burroughs man on mars stuff and just re-read Robinson Crusoe . Also steam punk like the movie "league of extra ordinary gentlemen" and Green Hornet, Batman, and Gambit. Can you suggest some books I might look up, and a brief overview of what they are about in a general sense? Thanks!

A: I would first of all recommend Terry Goodkinds' series The Sword of Truth, starting with the first book 'Wizard's First Rule". The series have captured my heart for years. It's about a man named Richard Cypher who goes from being a simple woods guide to becoming a leader of an entire nation. He inspires people and fights the battle of good vs evil. It is also philosophical in areas, and is an excellent series for re-reading. Excerpt from the back of the book "Twilight has fallen upon the Three Kingdoms: a grey time that could foretell either dawn or descent into bitter night. Richard Cypher, a woodsman and warrior, is chosen to bear the powerful Sword of Truth, but his enemy, Darken Rahl, is a royal mage who commands armies, hideous beasts and - more terrible by far - a twisted magic. This is a story of a magical world that mirrors our own, a world in which goodness and honesty are besieged by the forces of darkness and deceit. Richard Cypher's odyssey is a journey of the utmost risk and uncertain reward for the sake of love. It's a journey into the darkness of the human soul An extraordinary adventure has begun. The show "Legend of the Seeker' was VERY loosely based on this. And if you've seen the show....well let's just say that even if I wasn't a huge fan of the series, the books are hugely better than that c-grade tv series Another book I really liked was War of the Flowers by Tad Williams. I read it years ago and don't quite remember what it was about...except this guy from our world somehow got transported into a magical one...but it has stayed with me that it was a wonderful read. I remember thinking after I had finished reading it, that it was like nothing I had ever read before...(and I've read alot)....I think it was just very uniquely told. I also enjoyed The Fifth Sorceress by Robert Newcomb and The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud.

what story line can i have for my lyrical dance? by lg Q: i have to make up a lyrical/contemporary dance for a project and it must havea story line behind it, i want it to be extremely sad but am a bit stuck for the story line, i was thinking like an affair or something to do with physical abuse etc.. anyone have any good story line ideas?

A: Well you need to let your music help you tell your story. So do you have your music? What is the story the music is telling? The song "like you" by Evanescence is telling the story of a young girl who remembers the death of her little sister and how she is depressed and wanting to join her. The song "a star looks down tonight" by David Hasselhoff tells the story of a little girl asking her father about her mother's death and how to deal with it. Bon Jovi's "make a memory" is telling the story of two lovers who run into each other after years apart and how they just spend time talking and creating new memories. Just examples for you to consider. Lyrical/ballet/modern/contemporary Evanescence --Lithium , Hello, Like you, Lacrymosa, Good enough, Missing, Fields of innocence, The last song I wasting on you, You, Exodus, Breathe no more, Eternal, Demise, Ascension of the spirit, Give unto me, Forgive me Pink Floyd—Marooned, Terminal frost, Echoes, Interstellar Overdrive, One of these day, Run like hell On the turning away, Absolutely Curtains, Mudmen, Obscured by clouds, Dogs, A great day for freedom, High Hopes, Great Gig in the Sky, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun David Hasselhoff--Until the last teardrop falls, If I could only say goodbye, These Loving eyes, A star looks down tonight, White Bird Meatloaf—Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are, heaven can wait, Not a dry eye, Lost boys and golden girls Charlotte Church—All the little horses, unraveling, even God, Dream a dream (Elysium) from the movie Legend--The unicorn theme, The Cottage, Darkness , The Dance from the movie Dracula--Love eternal, Love remembered, The storm, Lucy’s party, Love Song for a vampire by Annie Lennox from the movie Dragonheart -World of your heart, Flight to Avalon, Draco from the movie Ladyhawke--main theme, She was sad at first, Phillippe describes Isabeau from the movie the Princess Bride-- The cliffs of insanity, I will never love again, The fireswamp & rodent of unusual size, Storybook Love—Willy Deville Alborada (A dawn of many colors album)--Ode to a woman, Mountain Melody Ceol Mor—(Celtic Passages Album)--Enchanted forest, The mountains at dawn, Sparkling river Sarah Brightman—Symphony, Fleurs du mal, Free, Deliver me, Rain, This love, Captain Nemo, Meadowlark, How can heaven love me, Tu quieres volver, You take my breath away, Desert Rose, When Firebirds cry, Beautiful, I will be with you (duet with Paul Stanley) Star Wars movie soundtracks Star Trek Movie soundtracks Avatar movie soundtrack Stargate soundtrack Ballet music from Faust: Finale—Gounod Dance of the cygnets—Swan Lake Dance of the clowns—A midsummer’s night dream March of the Toreadors –Carmen Rosamunde-Ballet music--Schubert “Nocturne”--Chopin Concerto Vi—Alessandro Scarlatti Let love live from Cirque de soliel Set the night to music—Starship Gravity of love- Enigma Push the limits-Enigma Eva—Nightwish Show me your fire truck—Backdraft Top Gun Anthem Hurt-Nine Inch Nails/Johnny Cash Through the eyes of love—Melissa Manchester (Ice Castles theme) For crying out loud—Meatloaf Dawn’s pale light—Liquid Sky Make the world go away-Elvis Love you to death-Kamelot Scarborough Fair—Leaves’ Eyes I am—Christina Aguilera Just the way you are—Bruno Mars 24-Jem (ultraviolet) Impossible--Shontelle Freshman—verve pipe In the air tonight—Phil Collins Are we the waiting—Green Day Make a memory—Bon Jovi Uninvited—Alanis Morissette Bed of roses-Bon Jovi Finest hour-Cindy Valentine aka Valentine Leone (Teen Witch) Beth-Kiss
