Does anyone have a copy of "Blindness" by Jorge Luis Borges? by Amy P Q: It is an essay called Blindness by Jorge Luis Borges. I have an AP test on it tomorrow and my teacher said I could probably find a copy of it online somewhere but I can't anywhere!!! If anyone does it would be greatly appreciated! Please help! Thanks!

A: I'm afraid you've left this rather late. I don't know of such an essay by Borges. And it would probably be copyright protected, so if it were on line you'd have to pay to read it. Are you sure you don't mean the novel, Blindness by Jose Saramago? Again, you're not going to find it for free on line, and you wouldn't have time to read it for an exam tomorrow.

Why was Argentenian writer Jorge Luis Borges snubbed when it came to receiving the Noble Prize? by higgs2boson Q:

A: Since the committee's debates aren't public, we can only speculate. According to http://www.answers.com/topic/jorge-luis-borges It was speculated that he was considered unfit to receive the award because of his tacit support of, or unwillingness to condemn, the military dictatorships that were being established in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and elsewhere. Although this political stance stemmed from his self-described "Anarcho-Pacifism," it placed him in the distinguished company of Nobel Prize in Literature non-winners, a group including, among others, Graham Greene, Franz Kafka, James Joyce, Vladimir Nabokov, Marcel Proust, Leo Tolstoy and Alfonso Reyes.

Is anyone familiar with the work of Jorge Luis Borges? by Glanced&Chanced Q: I know that he's largely unknown to the majority of the public, but I've read some of his stuff and it's amazing. Just wondering if anyone else had an opinion of his work.

A: Oh yeah, he is unbelievable. Literally. LABYRINTHS, one of his collections of short stories and non fictions, is certainly one of the most amazing pieces of literature that I have ever read. Admittedly, most of his stuff is beyond my level of comprehension, but his outrageous style and language and story-telling ability far more than compensate for it. It's quite a shame that, as you said, he is not widely known, because his stuff is so wonderfully good. At the same time, however, I think that maybe this is a good thing, because I don't think that most people would understand his genius.

Did Jorge Luis Borges have any regrets about the way he lived his life? by An0nym0us Q: Read his poem "Instants". It seems very straightforward but I don't know if I'm missing the essence of the poem because of something that happened in his life that he regretted very much. By the way, I do have to annotate this poem, so any thoughts about the poem will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A: He regretted being poor.

Can anyone please tell me from which Jorge Luis Borges' works the following quote comes:? by Angelica M Q: "Any life is made up of a single moment, the moment in which a man finds out, once and for all, who he is." I just know that this quote is by Jorge Luis Borges but I need to know which of his works it is from.

A: It's from his story Biografía de Tadeo Isidoro Cruz -- the translation isn't exact though. ++++++

What author would you recommend for someone who likes Jorge Luis Borges? by i luv 2 laugh =] Q: I really enjoy his short pieces. Any suggestions? P.S. The author doesn't have to be one who writes in Spanish. It can be an author of any nationality.

A: Italo Calvino, who wrote in Italian, but definitely is in the same spirit as Borges. Check out Invisible Cities, and Cosmicomics.

Which work of Jorge Luis Borges is the best with which to start? by vytis73 Q: I am trying to broaden my reading with a wide variety of authors. Which work is the best representation of Borges?

A: Labyrinths: Selected Stories and Other Writings is one of the best ways to start followed by Collected fictions.

Does the main character die in the end of ¨El Sur¨ by Jorge Luis Borges? by Angel Renderos Q: Hello everyone! I´m a little confused at the ending of the short story ¨El Sur¨ by Jorge Luis Borges. I understand that he does not want to fight with the drunk people in the bar with only a knife, and he talks about how losing his life in a fight would be honorable... but I´m very confused if he actually fights the people in the bar and dies, or if he just drops his weapon and walks out of the bar. Thanks so much!

A: Yes, he dies. He was bullied by some bloke in a cantine, so he goes into a duel with him. It was suicidal, since the other guy was an expert using the knive, but he did it anyway, since he said "it was a good way to day".

Where can I find an Argentinian 1peso coin with Jorge Luis Borges on the face? by [USMC] Sniper Q: I am looking for the 1999 minted coin with the profile of author Jorge Luis Borges. I've never really looked for a coin before so I don't know where to begin. I am looking for it for my friend, who absolutely loves his writings. Any leads would be appreciated!
