My friends and I are looking to rent a house in fire island.? by Mike Q: We are all college aged and had difficulty renting a house last year. Does anyone have any advice where we could rent a house in Fire Island easiest? Even better, does anyone know anyone who would rent to us?

A: Most Fire Island rentals have a waiting list. You may be able to get one if there is a cancellation. Try craigslist.

How to get from LaGuardia to Patchogue Ferry to Fire Island? by brucefan Q: We are traveling to NYC - would prefer LaGuardia Airport. We need to get to Fire Island, via Ferry at Patchogue. Does anyone know if we have to go to Penn Station, or is there somewhere else to pick up Long Island Rail Road? Or???

A: I don't know, but do you need a luggage boy?

Whats the best cheap hotel on Fire Island in Bay Shore? by Anna H Q: Hi i go to fire island every friday to sailors haven. Im planning my mom a trip there cause she loves it sooooo much. So does anyone know the best hotel with low cost on a good island? Some where with a bar because she loves partying. Please get back to me Thanks

A: there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

How did deer get on Fire Island NY? by p0lisht0m Q: I went to Fire Island NY and noticed that there are dear on the island... Im pretty certain that there is a bridge to the island but I don't think they just waltzed over the bridge.... This has been a subject of speculation the whole weekend me and my friends were there and without any conclusion. If anyone has any references it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A: Likely they walked across the Robert Moses Causeway on the western end of the island.

What is the best way to get to Fire Island from Manhatten? by realn07 Q: First time to NY soon, and was possibly interested in a day trip to Fire Island. What is the best way to get there and is a day long enough to hit the best highlights of the island?

A: It depends on which part of Fire Island you'd like to go to. If you want to go to the "party" area (Ocean Beach) you'd want to take the LIRR to Bay Shore, the train will let you off not too far from the Ferry station (I'm not totally sure if It's in walking distance, or a VERY cheap cab ride) If you want to go to the more relaxed, quiet, gay-oriented (although not all of it is) you'd want to take the ferry out of Sayville. It's pretty much the same situation as with Bay Shore. Hop the LIRR to Sayville and take the ferry. A day, starting very early in the morning is enough time to see your designated area... you're not going to cover the whole island (you actually can't, some spots you'd have to take a water taxi to get to)

How are the beaches at Fire island? And are there any waves to body surf or boogie board in? by alec Q: Im going to fire island for the 1st time and i am 15yrs old. Is there alot of stuff to do there for someone my age and I was curious how the beaches were?

A: Your answer is yes, although at the time I'm writing this the website says the wave height is only 1 foot. Normally there's a 3 to 4 foot surf. You can body surf any of the beaches and I think foam boogie boards are allowed anywhere, but body boards and surf boards are restricted to only certain beaches. I imagine that's good news for you though. This way you don't have to worry about mad surfers as you're trying to body surf on the waves. Here's a link down below to give you the current surf conditions on fire island.

A: My friend, take the Long Island Railroad's Montauk Branch from Penn Station to Bay Shore. Once in Bay Shore, take Fire Island Ferry to Fire Island. A one way off peak ticket on the LIRR from Penn Station to Bay Shore is $9.75. If you're traveling during peak hour, the fare is $13.50. A round trip ticket on the Fire Island Ferry, from Bay Shore to Fire Island is $15. I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck Native New Yorker
